I was FDC for a mortar platoon. I had an antenna array. One day, I and another were in our FDC bunker and we were hit by a recoil less rifle, blew the bunker up. The NVA hit dead center on the bunker and that's what saved us as we were sitting on the wall with our plotting board. We struggled to get out of the bunker and couldn't hear a thing, but once out we could see the three NVA soldiers. A helicopter flew over them and dropped smoke. I know they must have believed they would be dead any minute, but we never fired a single round of anything at them. We had a lrrp coming in and didn't know their location. I just guessing these three guys ran through the jungles with a big load in their britches.
