TOPIC: "Doctor Shopping" is the illegal practice by some patients who visit more than one doctor (and in some cases, several or many doctors) in order to obtain a desired prescription or diagnosis or treatment for the same medical problem. However, some military veterans have stated that they have been advised or compelled to attend "consultation sessions" with doctors or staff in VA facilities that either have nothing to do with their medical issues or needs, or for medical procedures they have expressed they do not desire to be treated for. NOTE: VA doctors and some staff are paid 'consultation fees' for each converstation they have with a VA patient. VA Surgeons are paid a great deal more money for any surgery they can convince a patient to agree to.
